The surface order parameter can be measured by observing contact angle between the isotropic phase droplet and the polymer substrate at the nematic-isotropic phase transition temperature T_<NI>. We discuss the relationship between the surface order parameter and the droplet contact angle using a three-dimensional order parameter measurement through the infrared absorption and a birefringence measurement of liquid crystal on the polymer surface. Based on the result, a new model concerning formation of droplet contact angle is established.
