We evaluated realness of real objects and images at various resolutions. Both real objects and images are viewed through a synopter, which removes horizontal disparity and presents the same image to both eyes. Sixty-five subjects evaluate the realness of three real objects and their images at six different resolutions ranging from 19.5 cpd to 156 cpd. We found that realness of image increases as the image resolution increases up to the discrimination threshold based on visual acuity and remains constant above the discrimination threshold.
