Abstract
The significant impairment to quality of life caused by the inability to masticate or bite remainsa critical concern, particularly for complete denture wearers. To address this functional deficit, this work examines the application and broad dissemination of the “clinical remount technique”advocated by Hideo Kawahara, whose motto is to “make dentures functional”, is a simplified, easyto-perform complete denture adjustment technique derived from a procedure taught to him over50 years ago by A.G. Lauritzen. Approximately 2,700 dental professionals have participated in itstraining, achieving significant results by prioritizing mastication- and bite-functional dentures indaily practice. Furthermore, through Kawahara's collaboration with Professor Takahito Takeuchi ofthe International University of Health and Welfare Graduate School, the application of the “clinicalremount technique” has expanded to senior care facilities and patients' homes. Recently, at the requestof the Academy of Clinical Dentistry, participants were recruited to form the “joy of eating supportteam”. They visited a senior care facility in Nakano Ward, Tokyo, and performed the “clinical remounttechnique.” This team continues its long-term follow-up and resident monitoring five years after theinitial intervention, demonstrating a dedicated, lasting commitment to restoring the joy of eating forgeriatric and denture-dependent populations.
