Abstract

Experiment of telemedicine was conducted on September 2001 between Japan and Nepal to assess the possibility to utilize an Inmarsat M4 (satellite high-speed data transmission communication system) for the telesurgery to improve the pediatric surgery in Nepal. The quality of the movie and voice was evaluated by using Mean Opinion Score (MOS). The sores of the movies, voice and overall were satisfactory that ranged from 3.8 to 4.2 out of 5 point. The protocol of the telesurgery should be much more organized to improve the cost-effectiveness for the large expense of toll for the Inmarsat data transmission. The telemedicine will be utilized to reduce the risk and travel expense to dispatch the medical experts to the developing countries.
