Presented at the Japan Academy of Nursing Administration and Policies Fourth Nursing Research Conference on August 25, 2000 in Aomori, Japan, the purpose of the presentation was to review the history, goals, role description, practice outcomes, and current employment of clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) in the US as a basis for consideration of the role of CNSs in the future health care delivery system in Japan.
