Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the study was to develop a Japanese version of the Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning Scale (SCLS) for simulation education for nursing students and to verify its reliability and validity.

Methods: The SCLS was translated into Japanese in accordance with international guidelines. Reliability and validity were verified using an anonymous, self-administered questionnaire completed by students who had received simulation education at three nursing universities.

Results: The questionnaire was distributed to 404 individuals, of whom 335 responded and 331 provided answers suitable for analysis (valid response rate: 81.9%). Cronbach’s alpha was above 0.8 for two factors. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed on 12 items of the two factors, excluding one item with a low correlation coefficient in the I-T correlation. The criteria of a certain degree of fit were met. There was a significant positive correlation between the self-esteem scale and the SCLS subfactors.

Conclusion: These results provide an initial validation of the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the SCLS.
