The present work is concerned with a mathematical analysis of the so-called fluid balancer, used on unbalanced rotating machinery. At sub-critical speeds the fluid in the balancer will have its center of mass at the same position as that of the unbalanced mass. At super-critical speeds however, the two mass centers will have opposite positions; and the oscillation amplitude will be reduced. The aim of the present work is to give an explanation of this phenomenon.
