We first set four types of small cities from a viewpoint of the interdependence among areas for urban service. That is, central cities which can meet almost their demand on urban service and supply the service for their neighboring areas, integrated cities which can meet almost their demand in cooperation with their neighboring areas, dependent cities which depend on big cities for large part of their demand, and independent cities which can meet almost their demand by themselves with no supply of the service to their neighboring areas.
And we analyzed the influence of city-type on the evaluation of residential conditions by means of a questionnaire survey and verified the ff.: city-type influences the evaluation of convenience and accessibility to big cities, the levels of content with both factors are in inverse proportion through the dependence on big cities, and the dependence on neighboring areas lessens the negative effect on the evaluation of convenience caused by the dependence on the areas outside of the city limits.
