INPEX CORPORATION(hereinafter referred to as "the company")announced "Future Business Development-2050 Towards a Net Zero Carbon Society" in 2021 and "INPEX VISION @ 2020" announced this year. In the Vision @ 2022, "2050 Basic management policy for a zero-carbon society" was presented. To achieve net zero carbon emissions in 2050, the company defines that "Five Net Zero Items" is to promote Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), to effort to strengthen renewable energies, to enhance CO2 capturing through forest conservation, to maintain methane emission intensity at current low levels during normal operation, and to achieve zero flare by 2030, and also the company states that our core business, the oil and natural gas Exploration and Production(E&P), will continue to provide a stable supply with "cleaner treatments". Our current oil and gas production and reserve ratios are 58:42 and 72:28, respectively To increase gas production and reserves ratio, in Australasia region, the company have been focusing gas exploration, development and production, and have grown into our core business. The technology and knowledge gained in these businesses will be utilized to expand our global gas business.
The outline of our gas E&P business strategy is as follows.
• Gas exploration & development will be focused on Fast Track Development, to shorten the period from discoveries to the start of productions.
• Focusing on Southeast Asia(SE Asia), where gas demand will growth in the future, an aiming business model is to achieves development, production, and supply to the market in a shorter period through E&P activities near the gas market.
• On the other hand, S.E. Asia has already reached the maturity stage of E&P, and there is limited room for remaining potential and growth. There are big technical challenges for making discoveries and proceed development with commerciality. At the same time, demands for the net zero carbon society is increasing, therefore our businesses will be required to reduce Native CO2 generated during production and Scope 2 CO2 which is associated emissions from development and production, while many basins in SE Asia generally contains relatively higher native CO2. Therefore, achieving an economical, stable and cleaner gas supply is not simple. To mitigate these issues,(1)exploration activities in areas where existing facilities can be utilized as much as possible(business model for shortening the period from discovery to production),(2)extraction of remaining prospects with a new perspective in exploration matured area.(3)effort for extraction of the exploration play in the area where the Native CO2 content is lower, and(4) concepts to reduce CO2 emissions.
