Abstract
The role of management information in corporate management is changing. It is strongly related to the current situation where manufacturing systems and IT are no longer rare or hard-to-find resources. In this research the utilization of information in centralized functional structures and later multidivisional structures, according to Alfred Chandler. Then, it is examined that how IT can be part of business processes in the present service economy. Thus, it will be considered why service innovation is difficult and what kind of IT functions will be needed to transform usual business processes into open service platforms.
