Abstract
There is a growing need for the Production Planning System (PPS) in China's manufacturing industry, caused by the shift from mass production to high-mix low-volume manufacturing. For the purpose of expanding the PPSs market in China, we conducted market research through the blue book published by the CASS and visited some local manufacturers and IT vendors to know actual situation of production planning. The market research clarified the fact that many manufacturers are not willing to invest in PPSs. The field survey revealed that a lack of accurate master data due to not digitizing historical production data discourages them from using PPSs. Therefore, implementation of master data management at low cost is the effective way of promoting introduction of PPSs.
