Benefit from a parallel processing ability, hardware based ANN processor can achieve real time processing. However, considering chip area cost and system execution speed, the sigmoid function with exponential character in its formula cannot be directly implemented into hardware. Therefore, various solutions for replacing it, such as SONF have been developed.To evaluate those solutions in terms of execution speed and chip area cost, a series of LUTs based on hardware of ANN system is proposed. For a fair comparison, the execution of all solutions will be discussed under the same condition.
