A surface wave antenna with a 2-by-2 array of dogbone is proposed for achieving a directional radiation pattern. Based on this research, a surface wave antenna with a 2-by-2 array of dogbone surrounded by circular line is proposed. The direction of the radiation is switched by switching of open and short between the line and each dogbone pair. As a result, directional diversity of a low-profile single antenna is realized. This structure working at 5.8 GHz can be applied for the VICS applications.
