A low-profile antenna with a 2-by-2 array of dogbone is proposed for achieving a directional radiation pattern. Based on this research, a low-profile antenna with a 2-by-2 array of dogbone surrounded by an elliptical line is proposed. The direction of the radiation is switched by switching of open and short between the line and each dogbone pair. As a result, directional diversity of a low-profile single antenna is realized. This structure working at 5.8 GHz can be applied for the VICS applications.
