The authors have focused on boehmite (AlOOH) filler added nano-composites for developing a novel functional insulating enamel wire resistant to inverter surge, which provides a life of 10000 times that of the conventional insulation life. This paper reports dielectric breakdown characteristics for three types of enamel twisted pairs made of polyimide resin including i) boehmite, ii) silica nano-fillers and iii) neat sample under bipolar repetitive impulse voltage. As a result, the lifetime of the boehmite-added samples were found to exhibit the longest lifetime, followed by silica-added one, and then the neat one.
