The authors have successfully developed an MNB antenna, which can detect partial discharge (PD) signal in SF6 gas without including specific noisy frequencies while it was not clear for the detection ability of air discharge signal. In this paper, the MNB antenna was applied to detect discharge signals in dry air, and the result was compared to that of SF6 gas. As a result, the discharge signal in dry air could be detected, and the wave shape seemed to differ form that in SF6 gas. This means that the MNB antenna could discriminate the PD in dry air and SF6 gas based on the wave shape.
