An apparatus with a variable temperature probe has been made to measure temperature dependent critical currents in superconducting wires. In this apparatus, a ramp current with a short sweep time of 0.1s is used for determining critical currents in a sample which has been helically wounded on a Cu cylindrical block in an adiabatic cell. The sample temperature is easily controlled in the range from 4.2K to transition temperature Tc. The maximum measuring current is 20A. The construction and ability of this apparatus are given and further a typical measurement result on a NbTi multifilamentary superconducting wire is shown.
