Briquettes status and possibilities in Japan

The current study analysed the status and possibilities of briquettes production to enhance the understanding and potential of fuel briquettes in Japan. It was found that small-sized briquettes are imported from Kingsford company in the United States by Japan Barbeque Association, while long type briquettes used in restaurants/hotels and in domestics are imported from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, to mention a few. It was also found that renewable energy technologies utilizing forest biomass such as the Nambu town gasification and combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Yamanashi prefecture presents opportunities for briquettes production using charcoal produced at about 9% (12 bags of 100kg each) of the outputs per day. However, production hasn’t yet started due to the current mode of operation of renewable energy by the company.
