Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify fathers' child-rearing behavior in response to refusal behavior in children aged 1 to 3. Focusing on the “scene of returning home” after a child and their father have played, researchers conducted non-participation observation and data collection in a local child-raising support facility. As for the analysis method, this research examined categories for analyzing based on previous research about mother-child-rearing, internet surveys, and interviews with mothers who have children aged 1 to 3 years old. As a result, fathers' child-rearing behavior diversified in response to the refusal behavior that diversified with the growth of the child. In addition, it was suggested that fathers' child-rearing behavior may be non-verbal as shown in previous research on mothers' child-rearing. Furthermore, it became clear that fathers responded more “behaviorally” than “verbally” to child-rearing behavior, which had not been shown in previous research on mothers toward children's refusal behavior.
