Abstract
In an effort to determine the standardized size of clothing that will fit growing children, measurements were taken on 807 primary and secondary school boys and girls in Kagoshima City. The following results were obtained.
1. Statures, chest girths and weights of investigated children are inferior to the nation-wide average, with both sexes and all ages.
2. The growth curve slackens a little at the ages between 11 and 13 with boys and between 9 and 11 for girls as compared with the nation-wide average curve. The gap between Kagoshima and nation-wide curves, however, decreases at the age of 14 with both sexes.
3. Torso-leg length, back waist height, spina illiaca anterior sup height, crotch height, knee joint height and sleeve length correlate with stature, while weight, waist girth, hip girth and neck girth correlate with chest girth. The correlations are so close that the size of clothing can be determined by estimating all other body measurements from stature and chest girth.
