In this study the object is to obtain the fundamental information on the reactive dyeing of cellulose fiber from solvent system. The solvent used is perchloroethylene (PCE), which is widely used today for solvent dyeing.
The dyeing characteristics of 4 dichlorotriazine type reactive dyes (C.I. Reactive Red 2, Red 11, Yellow 4, Blue 4) having different water solubility were compared in water/PCE and aqueous solution system.
The pre-swollen purified cellophane films were dyed with different dye concentration at 20°C, 30°C, 40°C respectively, in both water 5%/PCE 95% (v/v) and aqueous solution system. In. both dyeing system electrolyte (Na2SO4) was added as assistant.
Adsorption and fixation isotherm of these reactive dyes on cellophane in both dyeing system showed Freundlich type. Moreover, in water 5%/PCE 95% dyebath, amount of fixation on the sample considerably increased by adding electrolyte and even in the absence of electrolyte, effective fixation was obtained.
In conclusion, it is obvious that higher degree of dye fixation can be obtained in the water/PCE dyebath containing electrolyte than the normal aqueous system controlling the water/PCE ratio.
