Abstract
The basic mechanical properties of twisted yarn-twistless yarn composite fabrics were measured by using the KES-F fabric testing system and their hand values were calculated by using these mechanical data. The characteristic values of fabrics except for linearity of load-extension curve, geometrical roughness and weight are influenced by whether warp yarns are twisted or twistless and by twistless yarn content in weft direction. The values of the primary hands such as Koshi and Fukurami increase with mean twistless yarn content of warp and weft. The total hand values (THVs) of composite fabrics are equal to or slightly higher than those of twisted and twistless fabrics. The tensile, bending and shearing properties of composite fabrics when compared with those of twisted and twistless fabrics suggest that mixing of twisted yarns and twistless yarns works in the favor of men's winter suiting materials. It is predicted that a mixture of twist warp and twistless weft has good appearance and high THV and twisted and twistless fabrics have poor appearance, in spite of their high THVs.
