Perforations of the tympanic membrane caused by scald seldom occur, as the tympanic membrane is situated in the deep portion of the auditory canal. A myringoplasty was performed to a 9-year-old boy with perforation of the tympanic membrane caused by scald, and his hearing recovered to normal level. The pertoration of the tympanic membrane caused by scald should be, if it is larger than one eighth of the entire tympanic membrane, closed by myringoplasty. In performing myringoplasty in such cases a wider bed for transplantation of the temporal fascia must be provided, as there is a tendency of cicatrization and undernourishment in consequence of scald.
