脳膿瘍を合併していたと思われる鼻性脚膜炎の一例

A fisherman, aged 33, complained of pain in the right frontal area and fever from one week since. At the time of admission, the authors found hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the nose and ailittle pus in the right olfactory fissure, but no symptom of meningitis. After four days hadelapsed, the symptom of meningitis developed and the authors performed the radical operation of the right frontal sinus. No defect of the bone-wall of the frontal sinus was found, but edematous swelling and partial necrosis of the mucous membrane were observed. His symptom of meningitis was remarkably diminished after the operation. However, one week after the operation, he complained of severe headache after the cerebrospinal fluid was pumped out by lumbal punction, and died suddenly.
The authors reached the conclusion that he died from rupture of the brain-abscess from which supposedly he had been suffering. They regret, however, that they could not dissect the body.
