One hundred and sixty-five patients with laryngeal carcinoma treated in our department from 1972 to 1978 were reviewed and the results were analysed. Out of 165 patients, the glottic type was 107, the supraglottic 56 and the subglottic only 2. The male to female ratio was 6.5: 1.0. The incidence rates according to age revealed a peak in the seventh decade, followed by the sixth and eighth decades. The five year survival rate was 81.8% (Stage I 90.0%, II 84.6%, III 87.1%, IV 46.7%) in the glottic type and 52.1% (Stage I 73.3%, II 80.0%, 11151.9%, IV 26.2%) in the supraglottic type.
