Comparative study of serum protein in 14 patients with sudden deafness seen within 10 days (X; 3.9 days) after the onset, and 17 normal patients was performed using statistical techniques whose results are shown below:
1) Student's t-test revealed that the mean of serum total protein in the sudden deafness group was significantly lower than that of normals (p < 0.05).
2) It was concluded that albumin, α2-globulin andα1-globulin were asssociated with sudden deafness to a great extent when the two groups were analyzed by factor analysis.
3) It was concluded that the order of the strength of association with the severity of hearing loss at the time of the first medical examination was 1; albumin, 2; α2-globulin and 3; α1-globulin as demonstrated by stepwise multiple regression analysis.
A strong correlation was also observed betweenα1-globulin andα2-globulin using stepwise multiple regresson analysis.
