Longitudinal and horizontal sections were made in the stria vascularis of the guinea pig, and the fine structure of microtubules and microfilaments in the marginal cell was studied with the electron microscope.
Many microtubules were found in the interdigitated portion of the marginal cell. Fine connective tissue was observed between these microtubules. The diameter of the microtubules was about 24-25 nm. Microfilaments, 6-7nm in diameter, were observed directly under the surface of the marginal cell.
These microtubules and microfilaments seemed to support the external form of the marginal cell. In addition, the microtubules seemed to be associated with intracellular ionic transpotr.
