In this study, the simple and rapid quantification of the ash forming elements (Na2O, MgO, Al2O3, SiO2, P2O5, SO3, K2O, CaO, TiO2, MnO, and Fe2O3) and ash content in wood pellet fuel was developed by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometry using loose powdered samples. The sensitivity of EDXRF was improved by using vacuum conditions in the sample chamber of the analyzer and preparing wood pellet samples by milling for 30 minutes using a stainless steel ball-mill. The EDXRF method with loose powdered samples provides results that are comparable to those obtained using the traditional chemical analysis methods and the ashing method, and it reduces the analysis time by 75%.
