To achieve high-yield production of levoglucosan (LG) through fast pyrolysis of actual samples of recovered paper resources, factors affecting LG productivity and yield were investigated for various recovered waste paper samples, paper sludge, and deinked pulp. It was found that the Mg salt treatment and demineralization of these samples enhanced the LG yield. Additionally, it was suggested that metal cations added as additives during the papermaking process positively influence LG formation during the pyrolysis of recovered paper.
