Gasification of glucose (a biomass model compound) under both the subcritical and supercritical conditions (300-400℃; 25MPa) were conducted. While the yield of gas (the desirable product) increased dramatically as the temperature rose from the subcritical to supercritical regions, the char (the by-product) was increased with increasing temperature only in the subcritical region and was negligible in the supercritical condition. Based on the experimental product yields of glucose, fructose, furfural, 5-HMF, TOC (lumped liquid products), char, and gas, the n-th order kinetic model to describe the gas and char formation behaviors was derived.
