In supercritical water gasification of biomass, production of tar and char reduces the carbon gasification efficiency of the process. 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) is expected to form tar and char. In this study, we investigated the glucose decomposition and the char formation with the presence of catalyst at 25MPa. Presence of catalyst promotes the decomposition of glucose. The presence of HCl enhances the char and gas formations at subcritical temperature. H^+ enhances the dehydration reaction, while the presence of OH^- enhances gasification in supercritical temperature.
