To reduce the cost for enzymatic saccharification of cellulosic biomass, a highly active saccharifying enzyme cocktail was prepared by adding small amounts of several mono-component recombinant enzymes (β-glucosidase, β-xylosidase and α-L-arabinofuranosidase) to the extracellular enzyme solution mixture from the cellulose-grown culture of the basidiomycete Phanerochaete chrysosporium as a basal enzyme mixture. The most optimized enzyme cocktail in this study has the ability to produce approximately 500 g of total monosaccharide (glucose plus xylose) from 1 kg of ammonia-treated biomass in 24 hours of incubation when it is used at the 1 % weight ratio (protein basis) to the biomass.
