Ethanol-tolerant mutant TT-E8 was obtained by mutation in Pichia stipitis SS39-1 and ethanol adaptation of P. stipitis SS39-1. TT-E8 had tolerance against some kind of stress such as ethanol, acid and alcohol fermentation inhibitor including in the saccharified liquid of biomass (Erianthus). To be used by both thermotolerant yeast and TT-E8, distillation process could be eliminated from two-step fermentation system. Ethanol production speed and ethanol yield from total sugar were promoted in this novel system.
