As the environmental problems caused by global increase of energy consumption and CO2 emission become more serious, the increase of CO2 emission in consumer products field has become an issue in Japan. Among the causes of CO2 emission from general households, consumer electronics and hot-water supply especially account for a large portion, and the ENE-FARM is expected as the new efficient energy source. The ENE-FARM has improved its marketability since its launch in 2009, by each manufacturer’s development such as performance improvement and cost-cutting, and 150,000 have been sold by 2015. But, there are still lots of problems for achieving the goal set by METI, which is to sell 1,400,000 by 2020 and 5,300,000 by 2030, and the higher economic benefit and down-sizing are required. There are two methods of fuel cell used for the ENE-FARM. We took the SOFC method, which has higher power generation efficiency, and have been working on solving above-mentioned problems. We incorporated the improvement of thermal distribution of the stack, control method for operating in proper temperature, and stack performance into our product, and achieved the rated power generation efficiency of 52%LHV, and have been selling it as the latest model since April 2016.
