A temperature-programmed extraction/reaction of coal in liquid phase was performed to examine the solubilization and/or depolymerization behavior of coal. Coal could be separated into solid residue and solvent soluble fraction at high temperatures. The solvent soluble fraction was further separated into recrystallized solid (deposit) and solution at room temperature. The properties of the solid residue, the deposit and the solution were estimated by various methods. In addition, the pyrolysis behavior of the solid residue and the deposit was examined.
