X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of six types of coals treated with hexane or methanol at room temperature or extracted by soxhlet method were studied. In each XRD patterns, 002 band was characterized by the methods proposed by Hirsch and Shiraishi to clarify influences of the solvent processing upon stacking structure of aromatic layers in a coal sample. Further, intensity of γ-band overlapping upon 002 band in each XRD pattern was evaluated, and related with fa value obtained by ^<13>C-NMR measurement of the sample.
