Soot is formed in coal gasification through primary pyrolysis and gas phase reactions. A primary pyrolysis model, the Extended CPD model was already developed. In this research, main paths of PAH (poly-aromatic hydrocarbon) formation in gas phase reactions were investigated. The chemical species were classified to four groups to avoid underestimation of the reaction rate concerning to initially low amount species. The important reactions were selected from two points. One is the contribution for the mass balance of major species. Another is the reaction rate. The main reaction paths for PAH formation were revealed using these methods.
