We considered the method for measuring the contraction of the active components and inertinite. The active components were carbonized as a bulk sample containing coal and semicoke, and the inertinite was used as only inertinite bulk. We obtained good results for the second contraction difference between active components and inertinite It was confirmed that the contraction of the active components were higher than that of the inertinite, and the contraction of the active components tended to be higher as the high rank coal.
