Greenhouse heating by fermentation of woody biomass has been developed to reduce a consumption of fossil fuels and efficiently utilize unused biomass abundant in Japan. A test greenhouse was constructed in Karuizawa, Nagano and the effect of heating by fermentation of woody biomass was examined. The air temperature in the house was always 10℃ higher than that of the ambient air, even in mornings in winter, which indicated that this heating technology was a promising one substituting for the conventional one using fossil fuels.
