To understand fracture behavior of coke with low-quality coal, the effect of the blending conditions on coke strength was investigated experimentally and numerically using alumina beads that can be identified by X-ray CT (computed tomography) as the model substance of low-quality coal. From both experimental and numerical results, coke strength showed a negative correlation with blending ratio and particle size of alumina beads. Also, the results of numerical analysis suggested that the interface between coke matrix and alumina beads became an origin of the fracture as compared with that between coke matrices.
