In this study, we investigated the effects of the ion-exchange ratio and zeolite and alumina weight ratios on the selective dehydrocyclization of n-pentane to aromatic compounds catalyzed by Ga-exchanged ZSM-5 zeolite-alumina composite. The conversion increased with increasing temperature and reached almost 100% at 550°C for every catalyst. The selectivity of aromatics also increased with increasing temperature and exhibited more than 40% for most of catalysts tested. When the ion exchange ratio of ZSM-5 zeolite with Ga increased, the selectivity for aromatics tended to decrease at 550°C. Although the aromatics selectivity did not change depending on the amount of alumina, the optimal amount of alumina existed to obtain the higher conversion of n-pentane. Ga(15)ZSM(24)/10A exhibited the highest aromatic selectivity of almost 50% among the catalysts tested.
