Methane hydrate (MH) is considered to be part of the new generation of energy resources. Research on MH is being conducted in many countries. In Japan, the Research Consortium for Methane Hydrate Resources in Japan (MH21 Research Consortium, funded by METI) has controlled this R&D project since 2001 to 2018. The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has controlled Research Group for Production Method and Modeling and has led the development of production methods of methane gas from MH reservoirs. Many themes for production method and modeling are performed in this project. The present status of this research will be introduced.
