In an effort to reduce CO2 emissions, engines that use CO2-free fuel are being developed. One method is to mix NH3/H2 fuel into a conventional hydrocarbon fuel-based engine and use it as a partially CO2 reducing power device. In this study, NH3/H2 fuel was supplied to a small gas engine, the optimum mixing ratio and exhaust gas characteristics (NOx and CO) were experimentally investigated. The results showed that the operating range of the engine increased with the increase of H2 ratio in NH3/H2 fuel, and even NH3 (100%) fuel could be added up to 48vol%. The NOx emissions increased with increasing NH3/H2 ratio and the NO reduction increased at an equivalence ratio φ>1.0.
