Due to the environmental conservation, the practice of round use allows efficient use of marine containers in the inland transportation. In this study, by using the optimization software package CPLEX, the improvement effect on CO2 emissions and travel distance with empty container transportation are analyzed. Two different points before and after vanning/devanning at a customer location are considered, and the precedence constraints are set between those points. From the computational results, it is clear that handling time length effects on CO2 emissions. Only one truck is assigned before and after vanning/devanning in short handing time situation. One truck is assigned before it and another truck is assigned after it in long handing time situation. It is clear that this behavior can reduce CO2 emissions.
