At the opening ceremony of the Sydney Paralympics held in 2000, I realized that the 21st century will be an era in which socially vulnerable people are attracting attention while enjoying the atmosphere of the 100,000 spectators who support the Paralympics.
Socially vulnerable people generally refer to sick people, minorities, women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities (in no particular order). As the theme of the 62nd The Japan Association for the Integrated Study of Dietary Habits is "Food that supports people who need peace of mind and compassion,” we need a new society that includes socially vulnerable people rather than excluding them.
In this report, I would like to look back on the history of nutritional support for Japanese para-athletes from the dawn to the present, along with my own experience, and introduce the actual nutritional support required for para-athletes.
