This study is focused on the conservation activities conducted by local ecotour guides in Higashi village in Yambaru area in Okinawa, and investigated the development process and contents by examination of administrative papers and conducting interview, and viewed the significance of local supporters promoting both recreational use and conservation in balance. They applied independently the regulations and rules, cooperative conservation expense, and introduced the designated role of field management. It is clarified that the method has developed and expanded from recreation subordinated rules to directly participation in conservative activity and considering economic measures. It is considered that the participation of local ecotour guides in field management will be helpful from the perspective of the promotion of sustainable tourism.
