Newly developed Phase-Shift Interferometer was introduced for the observation of calcite growth. Calcite was grown in pure and L-aspartic acid (L-Asp) system respectively. Surprising enough, the step velocity with L-Asp was calculated to be 680% larger than that of pure system when σ was 0.2. We therefore concluded that Asp act as a promoter rather than an inhibiter.
