A survey was conducted in elementary, junior and senior high schools in Niigata, Toyama and Fukui prefectures with 1546 questionaires examined. The papers are composed of two reports and this first report shows the relations between students' living actirities and their views and concerns. 1. Girls have stronger concerns and positive views for the elderly than boys. 2. Experience of living with grandparents has no particular influences on students' positive views and concerns. 3. Students who are more active in sharing housework, in attending the community and who learn about welfare and the elderly in school have deeper understanding for the elderly and have stronger intentions to help them.
