The purpose of this study was to clarify the changes in the content of the “darning” and “repair of open seam” studies of home economics in elementary and junior high schools, and to examine what should be desirable in the future. Based on the results of the analysis of the Courses of Study and textbook descriptions, the current study was divided into three periods, and the changes in economic conditions and clothing lifestyles were considered. 1) “Repair of open seam” using hand-sewing skills is desirable to set up a practical training course. 2) The practice of “darning” rips and holes in clothes should be adopted in junior high school home economics classes. 3) ICT should be actively used in the classroom.
