Article 5, Paragraph 3 of the Child Abuse Prevention Law stipulates that “schools and child welfare
institutions shall strive to educate and enlighten children and their guardians regarding the prevention
of child abuse.” The high school course of study was announced in March 2018. In high school home
economics curriculum guidelines (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, 2018),
the topic of child abuse was made a compulsory subject. This study examines and analyzes high school
student awareness of child-rearing with the aim of obtaining basic materials on the prevention of child
abuse, thereby developing teaching resources for high school home economics courses. Despite there
being various challenges in actualization, it is essential to promote child-rearing learning experiences
and gender education, and spread knowledge about child-rearing through the development of teaching
materials on the concept of preventing child abuse.
